Debt, Dollars, DOW, War, Silver and Shirts

Yes, they are connected. Dollars are created as debt. More dollars in circulation = more debt. More debt means consumption is “pulled forward” from the future so consumption can occur now. This usually ends badly. Commercial banks and central banks have created trillions of new dollars. Each new dollar devalues every other dollar currently in circulation, in savings, and in pension accounts. Prices rise! Wars are costly, kill people and produce little. Governments like wars because they create demand for production of war materials. More production means a higher GDP (even if the concept means little). Politicians point to higher […]

How to Find Money at the Bottom of the Ocean

More than 70% of the world is covered by water, so why aren’t more people talking about the riches to be found under the sea? I don’t know the answer, but that’s OK. It means more profit opportunities for us. As we’ve mentioned over the last several weeks, we’re all about finding outside-the-box ways to increase returns, which is why we’ve lined up a great guest speaker roster for our Irrational Economic Summit this fall. In addition to the annual in-person insight provided by Harry, Adam, myself and the rest of the Dent Research crew, we’ve invited experts in space […]

Precious Metals Heat Up, Trump Turmoil, and Greg Weldon: Gold is a “coiled spring”

Welcome to this week’s Market Wrap Podcast, I’m Mike Gleason. Coming up we’ll hear a wonderful interview with Greg Weldon of Weldon Financial and author of the book Gold Trading Boot Camp. Greg gives us his thoughts on the dangerous scenario that could ensure if a selloff drives everyone out of stocks all at the same time, shares his opinion on Bitcoin and also tells us why he views gold as a coiled spring waiting to release. Make sure you stick around for my conversation with Greg Weldon, coming up after this week’s market update. Downside volatility hit financial markets […]

Where Oil Prices Are Headed

Oil has been in my “too hard” bucket the last six months. I couldn’t identify any catalyst that could drive it out of its trading range. I mostly expected it to chop around which has turned out to be the case. But I figured it’s time I revisit oil and see if there’s anything on the horizon that could ignite a tradable trend in the near future. With many US E&Ps selling for what appears on the surface to be cheap, along with the oil and gas servicing industry trading at historically low relative values to the oil price; now […]

The Dow Falls 274 Points As ‘Eclipse Fever’ Hits The Financial Markets

Have we now entered a time of major financial shaking?  On Thursday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 274 points.  The was the largest decline for the Dow since May, and high yield bonds were down dramatically as well.  Many are blaming the terror attack in Barcelona and “instability in the White House” for the downturn, but could “eclipse fever” also be a factor?  The closer that we get to the solar eclipse on August 21st, the weirder people seem to be getting.  You will see what I am talking about below. But first let’s talk about the financial […]

The U.S. Military Will Be Conducting ‘A Major Military Exercise’ On The Korean Peninsula During The Solar Eclipse

On August 21st, approximately 25,000 U.S. troops will join “tens of thousands” from the South Korean military to conduct a “major military exercise” that is already triggering threats from North Korea.  Considering the fact that any sort of provocation could cause a nuclear war to erupt on the Korean peninsula, is this really a wise thing to do?  The more research that I do on this upcoming solar eclipse, the stranger things become.  When I first started hearing about this eclipse many months ago, I didn’t pay too much attention, but now after looking into it extensively I do believe […]

Rick Wiles Issues An Extremely Ominous Warning: “The Alarms Are Ringing Again”

What you are about to read is going to absolutely shock you.  Rick Wiles has done outstanding work over at TruNews for well over a decade, and now just days before the August 21st solar eclipse he has issued his most ominous warning ever.  His warning is not directly related to the eclipse, but I find it extremely interesting that it is coming at approximately the same time, because many consider the eclipse itself to be some sort of warning.  I was a TruNews listener way before I ever started The Economic Collapse Blog, and I know Rick’s track record.  […]

Why Trump Won & The Peak of Globalization

Fareed Zakaria just put out a special show on why Trump won: He got the rural white vote in unprecedented margins – like 80% plus. Even before Election Day, we put out an infographic explaining why Trump could win despite the polls. Still, even I was a little surprised when he won! I bring this up again now, not to bash Trump, but to highlight the demographic and cyclical explanation behind his victory. And to show that the events that brought Trump into power aren’t done stirring things up. There’s a lot more to come. Trump is only the beginning… […]

Will The August 21st Solar Eclipse Begin A Period Of “40 Days And 40 Nights” For America?

Next Monday, we are going to witness one of the strangest events in U.S. history.  This will be the first total solar eclipse to ever be seen only in the United States and nowhere else.  Millions upon millions of people are going to flock to areas of the country where the full eclipse will be visible, but everyone in the continental United States is going to be able to see at least a partial eclipse.  There are lots of very unusual numbers associated with this eclipse, but in this article I want to focus on the number 40, and as […]

The Simple Reasons Why Amazon is Not a Monopoly

There’s a Much Bigger Problem for Retail I recently Google searched the term “Amazon monopoly.” It returned over 4 million results. Now, a couple of those hits were links to the Amazon.com product page for the Monopoly board game we all grew up playing as kids. (I was delighted to see there’s a Game of Thrones edition, complete with a direwolf token and King’s Landing as Boardwalk.) But the majority of the search results were articles about Amazon’s growing dominance of retail, and its potential threat to competition as a monopoly. Amazon is big, and it’s getting bigger every day. […]
