Only Start a College Fund If…

Nothing – and I mean nothing – will change your life as dramatically as the birth of your first child. It’s a wonderful moment and one that I hope everyone gets to experience. But it will turn your life upside down. That chic apartment downtown no longer makes sense… nor does that sporty two-seater car. And enjoying that cappuccino on your patio after sleeping in late on Saturday? Yeah, maybe you can do that again in 18 years. My wife and I decided to move to Peru, where she’s originally from, for the birth of our first son. And, let […]

There is No House Money… Only YOUR Money

Have you seen those Voya Financial commercials? The ones featuring cartoon, origami rabbits – one orange and one green? It opens with the orange rabbit explaining to a man, “I’m Vern, the orange-money retirement rabbit. I’m the money you save for retirement…” “Who’s he?” replies the man, pointing to the green origami rabbit. The orange rabbit answers, “He’s green money, for spending money today… you know, paying bills, maybe a little online shopping.” Now, here’s the thing… Both the “orange rabbit” and the “green rabbit” are identical. They’re both $ 1 bills. But Voya wants you to think about them […]

The Middle Class Is Being Destroyed: Now Only 25 Percent Of All Americans Have $10,000 Or More In Savings

We just got more evidence that the middle class is being systematically eviscerated.  According to a GOBankingRates survey that was just released, more than half the country has less than $ 1,000 in savings.  So in the event of a major economic disaster of some kind, over 50 percent of the nation is going to be completely out of cash almost immediately.  For years I have been writing about the steady decline of the middle class in the United States, but I still get astounded by numbers such as these.  According to this new survey, only 25 percent of all […]

The Way Congress Is Handling Health Care Shows Why They Only Have A 17 Percent Approval Rating

The Senate health care bill was unveiled on Thursday, and it appears to be dead on arrival.  At least four conservative senators say that they can’t vote for the current version because it doesn’t go far enough, while several moderate Republicans are expressing concerns that it goes too far in repealing popular Obamacare provisions.  You can read the full text of the bill here.  Since Democrats are going to be united in voting against any bill that the Republicans put forward, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can only lose two Republican votes if he wants something to pass.  I don’t […]

Is a Total Breakdown in DC the Only Hope for Reform?

Americans who are stuck with exploding health insurance premiums hate Obamacare. Trump won the election based, in part, on his commitment to “repeal and replace” the program. Congressional Republicans passed a repeal bill several times during the Obama years. But, somehow, now that they have a president who would actually sign the bill, it ain’t gonna happen! Instead of simply passing the same repeal, leadership trotted out a “reform” laden with most of the crushingly expensive mandates and big government control that conservatives hated about the Affordable Care Act. It failed when “Freedom Caucus” Republicans insisted on a more genuine […]

Trump’s Approval Rating Is Supposedly Only 37 Percent, But Small Business Optimism Just Hit The Highest Level In 12 Years

A Quinnipiac University Poll that was released on Tuesday says that Donald Trump only has an approval rating of 37 percent.  Meanwhile, that same survey found that Barack Obama currently has an approval rating of 55 percent.  Of course considering the fact that Quinnipiac polls showed Hillary Clinton winning the election in November easily, perhaps we should not put too much stock in these results.  But other polling organizations have come up with similar results.  In fact, an average of nine recent polls indicates that Trump’s approval rating is somewhere around 42 percent.  So without a doubt there are a […]

Are We Being Set Up For A Crash? Stocks Hit A Level Only Seen During The Bubbles Of 1929, 2000 And 2007

Will the financial bubble that has been rapidly growing ever since Donald Trump won the election suddenly be popped once he takes office?  Could it be possible that we are being set up for a horrible financial crash that he will ultimately be blamed for?  Yesterday, I shared my thoughts on the incredible euphoria that we have seen since Donald Trump’s surprise victory on November 8th.  The U.S. dollar has been surging, companies are announcing that they are bringing jobs back to the U.S., and we are witnessing perhaps the greatest post-election stock market rally in Wall Street history.  In […]

After This October Surprise, Donald Trump Only Has One Option Left: Expose The Clinton Crimes

It is going to take a miracle of Biblical proportions for Donald Trump to win the election now.  If nothing changes between now and election day, Hillary Clinton is going to win in a landslide.  Out of all the candidates that were running for president this election cycle (including third party candidates), a Hillary Clinton presidency would be the worst possible outcome, but it appears that is precisely what we are going to get.  The 2005 recording in which Donald Trump admits that he used his celebrity status to grope women would instantly kill the career of a normal politician, […]

Barack Obama Is On Track To Be The Only President In History To Never Have A Year Of 3% GDP Growth

We just got another extremely disappointing GDP number.  It was being projected that U.S. GDP would grow by 2.5 percent during the second quarter of 2016, but instead it only grew by just 1.2 percent.  In addition, the Census Bureau announced that GDP growth for the first quarter of 2016 had been revised down from 1.1 percent to 0.8 percent.  What this means is that the U.S. economy is just barely hanging on by its fingernails from falling into a recession.   As Zero Hedge has pointed out, the “average annual growth rate during the current business cycle remains the weakest […]

This Fourth of July, Realize You’re Only Human

I make a lot of mistakes. I choose the wrong lane in traffic jams. I pick the wrong lottery numbers. And yes, I even go in the wrong direction from time to time. These are small decisions. Sometimes I mess up in bigger ways. I’ve made business moves that took years to unwind, and sometimes I wish I’d pursued a different major in college, although I’m thrilled with my career. But all of these choices have one thing in common: they were mine. I made them on my own, after considering, and often ignoring, all the advice and input of […]
